Stefan Pfeiffer

Director Traffic Police, Central Franconia Police Headquarters
Germany

Stefan Pfeiffer started his career as a police officer 38 years ago in a patrol car. Now he is head of the police traffic department Feucht (Germany/Bavaria - middle Franconia) in the higher police service since 2008. The area of competence includes 400 kilometres federal autobahn with five autobahn junctions. Approximately 250.000 vehicles are passing this section per day. In average, the police officers have to investigate between 3.000 and 3.500 accidents with 600 injured and 10 to 15 killed persons per year. One more duty is the technical traffic surveillance on the autobahn, the counties of the Cities of Nuremberg and Roth and the City of Schwabach.

A special squad of plain equipped police officers are carrying out 24/7 independent of suspicion vehicle – and personal controls.

Missing speed limit on the autobahn, no car owner’s liability and in European comparison low charges for road traffic offences are complicating the road safety situation in Germany and for the traffic police in special.

Stefan Pfeiffer is active in the German Police Union (DPolG) and there head of the expert board ‘Traffic Safety’. He represents the DPolG in different German road safety organisations (DVR, VOD, Gmttb).

He is reputed as traffic safety expert through national and international lectures and publishing of articles. Additional he has teaching assignments and examiner duties for senior and higher police service at the Bavarian police college of public service.
