Rasha Azaldin Shafii

Head of Drone Unit, Royal Malaysia Police
Malaysia

Rasha Azaldin Shafii has served as a senior officer in the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) since 1991, rising from the rank of Inspector to his current position as Assistant Commissioner of Police. In his early career years, he worked as an Investigation Officer before becoming a Helicopter Pilot in 1996. Rasha holds a Commercial Pilot License and is certified as a UAV Instructor and Train the Trainer, enabling him to train other police departments and governmental bodies in Malaysia. He played a pivotal role in establishing the RMP Drone Unit in 2015 and was appointed as its first Head of Drone.

The RMP Drone Unit’s operational focus is on intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, investigation, and search-and-rescue (SAR) operations in urban, rural, and primarily border areas. The unit’s objective is to prevent the illegal transportation of smuggled goods, contraband, weapons, drugs, and illegal immigrants. Incorporating drones into policing has proven to be a game-changer, delivering significant success and return on investment (ROI) for the police force in terms of time, human resources, and costs. Rasha is keen to engage with partners to discuss use cases and ideas to enhance the use of drones as a first responder in policing.
