Krissy Barrett is the Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Counter Terrorism & Special Investigations (CTSI) for the Australian Federal Police (AFP). Krissy’s role as leader of the command covers all facets of Counter Terrorism, Special Investigations, and Foreign Interference and Espionage, while working collaboratively with government agencies and commands within the AFP.

Prior to her commencement as AC CTSI, Krissy held the position of AC Southern Command, where she led teams of police officers, protective service officers and support specialists to deliver policing outcomes for the Victorian and Tasmanian communities. Krissy worked closely with partner agencies and other commands across the AFP, achieving maximum impact on the criminal environment locally, nationally and internationally.

Krissy’s career with the AFP spans over 21 years with extensive operational experience in general policing and investigative roles including Deputy Chief Police Officer of ACT Policing, Commander of Operations Southern Command, and leading teams in Money Laundering, Organised Crime and Serious Financial Crime Taskforce. She also held a number of other frontline and leadership positions in ACT Policing. Krissy has represented the AFP and Australia in international forums, including two Five Eyes Law Enforcement working groups targeting significant organised crime mutual threats across the world.

Krissy leads and develops a diverse workforce and is focused on developing future capacity for law enforcement, enhancing the capabilities of domestic and international agencies and private sector partners to future proof the AFP’s ability to fight crime.

Krissy proudly holds the role of AFP First Nations Champion, promoting healthy and inclusive workplace culture, creating awareness and advocating for First Nations people, whilst leading and advising on significant matters to assist in implementing diversity and inclusion strategies

In 2016, when her whole of government view was recognised, Krissy was seconded to the Department of Social Services as Director Investigations. For her distinguished service to the Solomon Islands and the Bali Bombings, she was recognised for her leadership and contribution with a Police Overseas Service Medal and an Operations Medal respectively. She also holds an ACT Emergency Medal and a National Emergency Medal for leadership during bushfires, as well as a National Medial, National Police Service Medal, an AFP Service Medal and an ACT Community Service Medal.

Krissy holds a Masters of Leadership and Management (Policing) and a Bachelor of Arts (Criminal Justice Administration). Krissy was recognised and awarded the Mark Scott Memorial Scholarship in 2015 which she used to complete a research study contributing to diversifying the police workforce.
