The presentation introduces into the field of Biogeographic Ancestry (BGA) testing and its benefits and limitations to forensic practice. In previous years several molecular genetic tools were developed that generally lend themselves for this purpose, however, little research went into interpretation of the results and harmonization of reporting. Currently, the European DNA Profiling (EDNAP) group investigates these limitations by developing collaborative exercises to benchmark the state-of-the-art of BGA interpretation and develop direction for future guidelines.
