Hong Kong Police Force’s Smart Rescue Ecosystem

In Search-and-Rescue (SAR), every second counts and the ability to accurately pinpoint an accident location is critical to saving lives. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, as more and more people engage in outdoor activities, the number of SAR operations in Hong Kong has increased exponentially, with the accident rate increasing by 370%.

The Hong Kong Police Force has developed a unique Smart Rescue ecosystem that will reinvent SAR missions through innovative use of cutting-edge technologies. This new Smart Rescue ecosystem will help rescue teams significantly improve operational efficiency, interdepartmental coordination, and increase the chance of saving lives.

The Smart Rescue ecosystem is specifically designed to overcome difficult challenges in SAR missions. The newly developed HKSOS emergency rescue app serves as the backbone of the ecosystem, working alongside other patented technologies such as RescueAI and Signal Radar©️. HKSOS works together with RescueAI to detect potential accidents and alert Emergency Centre before an emergency call is even made, while Signal Radar©️ detects SOS signals generated by HKSOS from a distance even when there is no mobile network coverage. All critical information in the ecosystem is transmitted to the "Rescue Map" - a cross-departmental digital map for real-time situational awareness and effective coordination of SAR missions. By combining these innovative technologies, accidents can be detected much earlier and the exact locations of SAR missions can be determined, maximising public safety during outdoor activities.
