Leadership Keynote | Innovating Around the Officer

07 Mar 2024
Theater A
MIT Conference

Much of the business press focuses on big, world-changing innovations—innovations that will disrupt industries, lead companies to “blue oceans,” and revolutionize markets. But these revolutionary “outside the box” innovations are just one of three major types of innovation and are the most risky and prone to failure.  A second type of innovation – innovating “inside the box” is the most common type of innovation – it’s making your core products and services cheaper, faster, and better, and it’s a necessary and important type of innovation.

Robertson’s research and teaching, however, focus on the third way to innovate.  Instead of innovating “inside the box” or “outside the box” – he studies how to innovate “around the box.”  How can you take your core products and services and innovate around them to make them more useful, compelling, and easy to adopt?

In this talk, Robertson will show how organizations around the world use this powerful innovation strategy and will share the techniques and disciplines that any company can use to boost their innovation success.  He will end by presenting some specific ways that the Dubai Police (or any police force) can innovate to make their core services more useful, compelling, and innovative.
